You’ve got a wacky deadline, Marketing is breathing down your neck, and you not only have to come up with a winning concept, but it has to be outrageously funny as well. Pressure? You bet. That’s why you need to call us. We can help you flesh out that idea, and give it to you in a humorous style, in a multitude of media, and always on deadline. Why? Because (no pun intended) when it comes to cartoons, we’re just as serious as you!
A VISIT TO REI IS LIKE A TRIP TO A THEME PARK REI liked the maps we did for Six Flags Corporate so much, they had to have one of their own. They left no room for doubt about how much fun you can have with all the great sporting equipment they have in their store.
HOW DO YOU FIT ALL THAT STUFF IN? "You know how the ad was originally horizontal? Well, now we need it to fit a vertical format. How fast can you turn it around for us? Really? That's great!" You might even notice a few extra fun details we added, just because we could. Here are a few of those fun details (just in case you're squinting).
CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THAT SWEET STUFF The Binge-Buster’s Survival Guide, By Donna LeBlanc, M.D., L.P.C., is a book about psychological approaches to eating habits, and is witty and engaging, as it outlines twelve personality types and their approaches to dieting. These two cartoons, “The Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Eater,” and “The Honor Bar Guy” are great examples of humorous illustrations located throughout the book.
AT THE END OF HIS ROPE “There Are Some Things You Can Replace. Your Eyes Aren’t One Of Them” is the headline for this piece for Essilor, targeted to customers considering better eyecare. A smooth layering of Illustrator and Photoshop techniques brings out the funny side of things.
WE UNDERSTAND PRESSURE This interactive brochure for Network Associates takes the funny route in explaining a network consultation firm’s ability to help their clients resolve technical issues quickly and easily. Hand drawn and cleaned up in Photoshop, these cartoons have an updated woodcut look.
ONE COMPANY, MANY CAPABILITIES How do you show everything an incredibly diverse company can do for their customers in one simple graphic? Easy! This series created for Network Associates proves it. Just ask us. We can illustrate any concept.
LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING Can you judge a website by its cover? It can be hard when it comes to Data Genesis’ “Smart Little Engine.” They’ve created a “smart” search engine capable of generating search results based on the “meaning” of your query. The design challenge here was to create an image for the site that is simple and fun to use, while making its sophisticated technology less intimidating for the everyday user.
STICKY AS A SPIDER’S WEB Got a look you absolutely have to match? Got a client with graphic standards that just won’t budge? Not a problem. This project for Promo Doctor’s Spiderman & Friends toy line required a high level of continuity with products all across the board, and these images for a pre-school rider fit the bill with great concepts and easy client approvals.
JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY . . . Doesn’t have to make you an outcast. In this story for a bi-lingual grade school reader, this little bird preferred to walk rather than fly. When the other birds were grounded by a storm, they finally saw the wisdom of his ways.
AUTUMN AMORE When Essilor decided it was time to take a vacation and celebrate their success with their top sales people, romantic Venice was the only choice. A free-styled watercolor illustration for Essilor’s brochure catches all the fun and atmosphere, sights and sounds of this exotic location.
HOMES IN UNEXPECTED PLACES This simple illustration for a bi-lingual children’s reader shows what a little girl finds one day in her back yard.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY A LOT FOR A LITTLE FUN With a little ingenuity and a lot of talent you can get the laughs you’re going for, and communicate the message you require, all at a price that will really make you smile. We’ll invent a character or style that makes your concept look as fun as you want.
CHART WITH CHARACTER When you want to express to your customers how quick and easy it is to order eyeglasses online and have them delivered overnight, do what Varilux did. Have an incredibly talented digital artist create a character like “Technology Man,” and show them exactly what you mean.
A GROWING BUSINESS TAKES TIME, CARE, AND A LITTLE FERTILIZER Building your business is like caring for a tree. Come on, go with me on this. Anyway, Essilor had a process that they wanted to convey, and they wanted a contemporary, artsy feel in this sales incentive piece.
A SUPER PRODUCT WITH HEROIC PROPORTIONS Kids really respond positively to these in-store hanging posters introducing a brand new line of eyeglasses that give them the ability to see farther and read faster. Essilor presents this new brand with a punch.
REACH THE BEACH This sales incentive brochure creates excitement about Varilux’s award trip to the Bahamas. The trick in any humorous illustration is to present a really good visual punchline. The payoff for this joke actually takes place on the back cover, where we discover that the people from the front cover are really a bunch of company technicians throwing off their lab coats.
HIP AND HAPP’NIN‘ Only Neiman-Marcus can turn a sales promotion into a true sales event. These in-store sales promotion posters help bring that event to life.
NO ROCK STAR IS SAFE This irreverent set of trading cards produced for PressPass spoofs every pop star in the tabloids. From Elvis to Stevie, Cher to Dolly — we’d like to apologize to all sixty of them, but that would take too much time. Ink and markers made this set of almost sixty lively cards quick, spontaneous and fun to produce.
FIND THE BOY EXPLORER Taking our cues from a popular search-and-find game character, we took a tongue-in-cheek approach in illustrating all the different places Young Indy visited in the television show. In this particular game card for the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV Show, we see him in Egypt, surrounded by all sorts of inventive visual puns.
WELCOME TO SIX FLAGS! When we were offered this project to illustrate multiple maps for Six Flags theme parks all over the U.S., we were thrilled! When we saw how much detail was really involved, our mouths watered. Finally, a project big enough to sink our teeth into. From that point on, it was just a matter of getting approvals, staying within budget, and delivering on time for the parks’ openings. — Simple!
DEMOGRAPHICALLY DEMONSTRATIVE When you develop a new technology product that has benefit for seniors of many ethnic backgrounds, how do you help them relate? A west coast telephone company has taken the responsibility of making phone calling more accessable to their customers, and they communicate their program in a way that each person can feel good about.
